It started with a favor.

It became something more.

In 2020, while Ruben was working inside one of the game's largest manufacturers, a co-worker handed him his clubs and asked, “Think you can do something with these?” Ruben has always had a creative mindset and offered to give it a shot if he covered the materials. He had no idea that this simple favor would become something more.

As more people took notice of his work, what started as a one-time thing quietly became more of a side project. By day, Ruben was working full-time, learning the craft of building and assembling clubs from the ground up. By night, he was in his garage customizing clubs that actually reflected the person swinging them. Experimenting with custom finishes, details, and restorations. Giving golfers something they couldn’t find on a rack: clubs with a story behind them.

For years, he ran both worlds in parallel. Until 2025, when he went all in.

Soon after, Sam Simpson joined as a partner. Sam worked alongside Ruben for almost a decade - they know each other, trust each other, and bring out the best in each other. Sam brings a sharp operational mindset and in-depth leadership skills that turn a passion into a business. Together, they cover what the other doesn't. That's rare.

Today, Custom Golf AZ is a full-service custom club operation out of Gilbert, Arizona. We build and assemble clubs, handle restorations, and create one-of-a-kind custom finishes across every type of club. Every order, whether it's a single set or a bulk build, gets the same level of care and attention to detail.
